The year 2009 has been an exciting year for MMA so far. There have been a lot of fighters breaking out into the Public eye. Here are my top picks for breakthrough fighters of the year….
5. Cris Santos- Her fight with Carano gave her the publicity she needed and it put her on the map!
4. Lyoto Machida- He was always a very good fighter, but never got the recognition he deserved until knocking out Silva and Evans, making him a household name in MMA.
3. Mike Swick- Many thought he was done after losing to Okami, but after his drop to Welterweight he has posted a record of 4-0 and is looking at a title shot in the near future.
2. Chad Mendes- A former D1 Wresting Champion at Cal Poly SLO has transitioned to MMA with a record of 4-0 in the 145 division. He is training with a very strong camp with Team Alpha Male.
1.Jon Jones- After beating Stephan Bonnar in UFC 94 Jon Jones has had an aboundance of hype surrounding him and he has lived up to it so far going 3-0 in the UFC and is facing a tough challenge of Matt Hamill in TUF 10 finale.
